Dancing with Systems is an experimental placemaking art project that combines citizen science, community engagement, and environmental justice. Art is a tool for personal and collective transformation.
The world is a network of complex and intelligent life, (ecological awareness)
Rooted in research and care, Dancing with Systems will culminate in a free and accessible model that details methods to learn about and “dance with” different New York City urban ecosystems to restore soil, provide animal habitats and shelter, and focus on the momentum of small actions.
The social practice manifests as a series of workshops, conversations, and community work.
I host art-based workshops to empower others with knowledge about the more-than-human community.
This project is only possible by what has come before. It is inspired by Mel Chin’s groundbreaking ecological art intervention 1991 Revival Field with a framework adapted from systems thinker Donella Meadows and the BioArt Society.
Other notable thinkers and projects include: Cooking Section’s Offsetted, Maru García
